From established annual festivals to one-off events, there is always something happening in and around Girvan throughout the year. Whatever month you decide to visit, you can find out what’s on in the town by checking our new events calendar on the homepage of our website.
If you’re planning a trip to Girvan this spring or summer, we have listed some of the festivals and events that you definitely won’t want to miss!
WHEN – 28th – 30th April
2023 will see the 48th Girvan Folk Festival take place in venues across the town. Visit their website to check out this year’s programme which features concerts, session trails, workshops, storytelling, talks and more.
WHEN – 13th May 12pm – 5pm
The historic tower that dominates the centre of Girvan is fondly known as ‘Stumpy’. Completed in 1827, it was previously used as the town jail. On 1st April it will reopen to visitors who will be able to step inside and explore the old prison cells. To celebrate, there will be tours, battle re-enactments and much more.
WHEN – 3rd – 4th June
The inaugural Girvan Arts Festival was held in 2022 and thanks to its resounding success, it is set to return in 2023. Expect a weekend of performances, talks, exhibitions and some delicious cream teas.
WHEN – 4th June 12.45pm
A firm favourite in Girvan’s annual calendar of events, The Lowland Gathering takes place in Victory Park with rolling hills providing a scenic backdrop for pipe bands, Highland dancers and games competitors. A fun day out for all the family.
WHEN – 17th June 12.30pm – 7.30pm
Another fledging Girvan festival, The Tattie Fest is back for its second year in 2023. Celebrating the Ayrshire Epicure tattie grown on Girvan’s doorstep, expect lots of tasty tattie dishes, music, poetry, workshops and more.
WHEN – 5th August 12pm – 5pm
A great day out in support of Girvan’s RNLI, this yearly gala is always a popular event in the town. Highlights include rescue displays and an opportunity to see inside Girvan’s lifeboat. Stalls, rides, competitions and more bring a bustle to the harbour.
WHEN – Sundays from 11th June – 27th August
Every Sunday from June until August, Girvan prom is the place to be for a dance and seaside sing-along as some of Scotland’s best-loved tribute acts take to the stage. If that sounds too energetic, sit back on one of the deck chairs with a view of Ailsa Craig and enjoy the free music.
