New Girvan Town Ambassador Scheme Launched

This month a new Girvan Town Ambassador Scheme has been launched in partnership with Girvan Tourist Information Point and Go Girvan.

A team of Girvan Ambassadors will be offering a warm welcome to tourists in the town this summer and providing them with local information to help them make the most of their visit.

To date, seven local volunteers have signed up to meet and greet visitors around the town. The Ambassadors will work in pairs and will be easily identifiable with their blue and gold Girvan Ambassador sashes made by local crafter, Karen McQuisten. They will also be carrying Go Girvan branded bags containing local leaflets and complimentary poo bags to hand out to anyone requiring them.

We constantly receive feedback about how friendly Girvan is, and we hope this scheme will reinforce this positive image of the town. It is also another way for us to support local businesses and attractions by personally making visitors aware of everything Girvan has to offer.

The Girvan Ambassadors have a wealth of local knowledge and are looking forward to sharing their tips and recommendations with visitors over the summer months.

The scheme grew from an idea put forward by Pauline Forsyth, a volunteer in Girvan Tourist Information Point. Pauline was keen to reach the visitors who don’t make it to the Tourist Information Point and share her passion for the town.

Through Go Girvan, the possibility of a Town Ambassador scheme was developed and it soon became apparent that Pauline wasn’t the only Girvan local eager to volunteer. Pauline is now the Lead Ambassador of a team of 7 and it is hoped even more will sign up.

We asked Pauline why she wanted to volunteer in the role –

“When I first came to Girvan, I knew it was my forever home. I was introduced to the Tourist Information Point 2 years ago and I loved my wee Sunday shift but I always felt we needed a kiosk, noticeboard or just somebody down the front to help our visitors (and residents) with information about our town.

This is now all coming true with the help of Go Girvan in the body of the Girvan Town Ambassador project. I’m so excited to get started with our wee team to try and help Girvan return as a hot spot for visitors.

It will be lovely meeting and greeting while out and about with my team behind me who are Girvan residents through and through.”

If you spot our Ambassadors out and about, please do say hello and if you need any information about Girvan, they will be delighted to help.
