WALKING ROUTES

Flanked by the rolling Galloway Hills on one side, and the Ayrshire Coastal Path on the other, there are plenty of gorgeous walks for you to explore.

WALKING ROUTES IN GIRVAN

4.5 miles
Laggan Trail

The first part of the route follows what used to be  right of way to Barr village. Along the way you will have beautiful views of Byne Hill and beyond, towards the Stinchar valley. A mile further on is Laggan Loch, an almost perfectly circular Loch, which, according to local legend (and South Ayrshire Paths volunteer group!) the outline of a ploughman complete with yoke can be seen on the surface of the Loch. He was reputed to have been lost in mud at the bottom. Crossing the drystone dyke the route continues on the track before branching right near the whaleback summit of Laggan Hill. This is an area which is still predominantly farmed for hill cattle and sheep, so remember to keep dogs on a short lead, and respect the Countryside Code.

View the Girvan Trails leaflet for route information.
